New Job...Monday 8th of March 2010 06:00 pm I’ve been working at the Hive now for just over 4 weeks and I can say with certainty that this will probably be the best minimum wage job I will ever have. The atmosphere at the Hive is very laid back and the staff are friendly and helpful. The chiefs are very supportive and I am very pleased to be in a job where there are no insane managers. As of late I have been covering the reception in Sarah’s absence. This largely involves redirecting phone-calls, taking messages and booking tickets for Hive events. Aside from this, the work is often varied and involves many random ad hoc tasks. This helps to keep things interesting, as you never know what you will be doing from day to day. I have also been working on a market research project, compiling data to hopefully help ascertain the effectiveness of the Hive’s publicity machine. What is perhaps best about the job is that I am sometimes given license to pursue my Gold Arts Award during working hours. I have already arranged for a guitar workshop to be run whereby I hope to teach a class of between 4-8 young students in the basics of rock guitar. This will hopefully run on a Thursday afternoon and should be a fun and rewarding experience. I have also begun to write an essay on the value of progressive rock in the world of today, and I have started to make a music video based upon the four ‘elements’. I hope to learn many new skills during my time at the Hive, as well as improve upon existing ones, and I believe that the role provides an excellent ‘behind the scenes’ insight into the world of arts and creative media. | ||
